History of Animal Rescue, Inc.
Since 1976, Animal Rescue, Inc. has been a refuge for homeless cats and dogs. Their overall goal for any animal they rescue is that they will never be homeless again. They wish to find a loving home with a lifelong companion or a loving family for all the animals, but, if they never find that home, they are welcomed into the ARI family. The ARI is home to several hundred animals between their different locations. Under no circumstances are any animals euthanized due to medical expenses or the inconvenience of care. While the main goal is to find a responsible home for our residents, they work hard to ensure all animals receive the level of care they need. In addition to being a sanctuary for the unwanted, ARI offers free or discounted emergency medical services. They also offer low-cost spay and neuter clinics to the surrounding community, and trap-neuter-release (TNR) clinics for feral cats. Most of the animals they care for are rescued strays, as they offer solace to any creature who is in need of it. Over the years they have gladly opened their doors to a large variety of creatures including mice, cows, chickens, pigs, turkeys, goats and geese. Every life, no matter how great or small, matters at ARI and that's why we chose to benefit and give charity to this humble organization.
Our Experience
In the Apollo Program, we are expected to do a large group project. We were encouraged to reach out to our community and utilize the combined efforts, talents, and abilities of a selection of unique people. There is a diverse selection of excellent work done in this program and as for our contribution, Kids Collective -- comprised of Olivia Garisto, Sydney Little, Kyle Allen, and Sage Sadak -- collaborated with the HIVE Artspace of York, Pennsylvania in order to create an art gallery.
The members of Kids Collective are all artists. We held an admiration of art culture and we decided that this would be a wonderful time to get involved in the art scene of York, PA -- one we were pleasantly surprised is quite lively! But not only did we want to just produce art, we wanted to give back. So we threw around ideas before finally coming up with the compromise of holding a silent art auction where a significant amount of the proceeds as well as physical donations of things such as dog food, cat litter, etc. would go to local no kill shelter Animal Rescue, Inc. Our group, especially our excellent communications representative Olivia Garisto, spent the subsequent months working with the kind people at Animal Rescue, Inc as well as Susan Scofield of the HIVE Artspace to organize the event we were envisioning. The process was not easy and we of course had our share of ups and downs, but in the end the experience can only be described as amazing.
The opportunities, the experiences that were allowed to us as a result of this project are truly incredible. We learned skills we never would have elsewhere in our school -- how to draft contracts, how to handle professional communications (( such as email, phone calls, etc. )), how to spackle walls, even how to handle financial matters as 16 year olds! It is something that we are deeply appreciative for. We are very humbled by the experience, our gallery turned out incredible thanks nothing else except the tremendous work put into it by the team and our giving community, especially those working directly with us. The process has been insightful and our group can confidently say that we our satisfied with what we have accomplished, proud of how far we've come, and better for this project.

The Night of the Gallery
The resident Youtuber of our group, Olivia Garisto, compiled a lovely video of the night of our gallery! So if you missed out on the event, don't worry, you still get to be included in the action. We are so thankful for how well the night went and at this time we have successfully managed to get bids on every single item in our auction at a minimum of $25 a bid. We'd love for you to take a minute of your time to watch this (( nicely soundtracked )) documentation of the event. It was months in the making and we're nothing is not very proud.
